Why should campsite tents be made of flame-retardant materials?

Camping activities inevitably involve various sources of fire, all of which pose potential dangers:

• Open flames: Barbecue grills, campfires, campfires, gas canisters, kerosene lamps, candles, lighters, etc.

• Electrical appliances: Electric blankets, electric heaters, power banks, or substandard lighting wiring inside tents.

• Human factors: Negligence by visitors, such as incompletely extinguished cigarette butts, children playing with fire, or cooking errors.

Tent fabric itself is flammable (especially common Oxford cloth, which has an oily PVC coating for waterproofing and will ignite violently when exposed to fire). Once ignited, the fire spreads extremely quickly, potentially engulfing the entire tent in seconds, leaving extremely little time for escape.

Flame-retardant materials do not mean "non-combustible," but rather "difficult to ignite" and "delayed combustion." They effectively resist small sources of fire (such as sparks or fallen cigarette butts) and are not easily ignited. Even if ignited by a large source of fire, it will:

· Burn extremely slowly

· Extinguish itself after the fire source is removed

· Not produce a sustained flame, only smoldering
